Niger demands $1.2m form EU to fight illegal migration

Niger is asking Europe for about 1.2 million dollars to fight illegal migration.The west African nation is a major transit country for Africans seeking to reach Europe.The Nigerien foreign minister says the country wants to guard its borders against clandestine migration.According to the International
Organisation for Migration, as many as 150,000 migrants, most of them coming from other West African nations, will travel through Niger this year, crossing the Sahara on their way to the Mediterranean coast.Meanwhile, Niger has extradited to Senegal, a radical Islamist with alleged links to the Boko Haram militants. Makhtar DiokhanĂ© arrived Dakar airport escorted by Niger’s elite security team.The Senegalese authorities had requested Niamey to extradite the terror suspect upon arrest in Niger in 2015.At the time of his arrest, Niger security sources said DiokhonĂ© was planning to cross into Nigeria to reunite with the terror group, with huge sums of money, including fake currencies.
